Good to know
Format limits apply: nested JSON values are embedded as JSON text inside a single CSV cell (not expanded into columns), and CSV values are always imported as text — no number or boolean detection is attempted.

How to convert JSON to CSV

  1. Click Choose files (or drag & drop) and select one or more JSON files. You can also paste the input text directly into the box below the uploader.
  2. Review the options (delimiter is auto-detected for CSV) — usually the defaults are exactly right.
  3. Press Convert to CSV. Each file is converted with a live progress indicator.
  4. Open the download page to save your files individually or grab everything as a single ZIP.

Why convert JSON to CSV?

Analysts live in spreadsheets; data arrives as JSON. This tool converts an array of JSON objects into a properly quoted CSV with a header row, ready for Excel, Google Sheets or a database import. Nested values are serialized inline so no data is silently dropped.

What this tool preserves — and what it changes

✓ Preserved

  • Every key from every object: the header row is the union of keys across the whole array (in first-seen order), so a field that only appears in row 40 still gets its column
  • Row order — the CSV follows the array order exactly
  • Standards-compliant quoting: cells are quoted only when they contain the delimiter, quotes or line breaks, with embedded quotes doubled

↺ Changed

  • JSON typing disappears: numbers and booleans become plain text, and null becomes an empty cell — CSV has no types
  • Nested objects and arrays are serialized as JSON text inside a single cell — nothing is silently dropped, but nothing is expanded into extra columns either
  • Objects missing a column's key get an empty cell there, keeping every row aligned
  • Rows are joined with CRLF line endings, and the output delimiter is selectable: comma by default, semicolon or tab if your spreadsheet expects them

Known limits & edge cases

  • The input does not have to be a bare array: a single object converts as one row, and an object wrapping an array (a typical API envelope) is unwrapped to its first array-valued property automatically
  • An array of arrays converts to plain rows with no invented header
  • Invalid JSON, an empty array, or data with no object keys is refused with a clear message instead of producing an empty file

Engine: In-browser JavaScript converters with no external libraries (XML parsing uses the browser's built-in DOMParser). These statements describe the engine as shipped on 2026-10-02 — behaviour changes are recorded in the changelog.

About the formats

What is a JSON file?

JSON is the standard data format of the modern web. APIs, config files and databases exchange structured data as JSON because it is human-readable, supports nesting, and maps directly to objects in every programming language. Converting between JSON and CSV, XML or YAML is everyday work for developers, analysts and anyone wiring two systems together.

What is a CSV file?

CSV is the simplest table format: one row per line, values separated by commas (or semicolons/tabs). Every spreadsheet app, database and analytics tool can import and export CSV, which makes it the lingua franca of tabular data. Its weakness is structure — no data types and no nesting — which is exactly what converting to JSON or XML adds.

Handing developer data to spreadsheet people

An API export lands as JSON; the person who needs it lives in Excel. This tool converts an array of JSON objects into a proper CSV — keys become the header row, objects become rows, quoting and escaping handled — that opens directly in Excel, Google Sheets or Numbers with columns where columns should be. Analysis, filtering and pivot tables from there are the spreadsheet’s home game.

The shape that converts cleanly is flat: one level of key/value pairs per object. Nested structures don’t map to a grid on their own — flatten what matters into top-level fields first (or accept nested values serialized into single cells). For the recurring case — users, orders, tickets, log entries — the conversion is a straight lane from developer tooling to the spreadsheet on someone’s second monitor.

Frequently asked questions

Is this JSON to CSV converter free?

Yes — completely free, with no sign-up, no watermarks and no daily quota. Processing happens in this browser, so the practical limit is the memory available on your device.

Can I convert multiple JSON files at once?

Yes. Select or drop as many files as you like — each one is converted in sequence with its own progress status, and you can download the results individually or all together as a ZIP archive.
