Good to know
Converting to JPG or lossy WebP applies the quality level you choose. JPG and BMP have no transparency, and our GIF encoder does not carry transparency either — transparent areas are flattened to the background for all three. Animated GIF input is read as its first frame.

How to convert Image to BMP

  1. Click Choose files (or drag & drop) and select one or more Image files. You can also paste an image from your clipboard.
  2. No settings needed for this conversion — the defaults handle everything.
  3. Press Convert to BMP. Each file is converted with a live progress indicator.
  4. Open the download page to save your files individually or grab everything as a single ZIP.

Why convert Image to BMP?

Plenty of older Windows programs, scanners, embedded systems and industrial tools only accept raw BMP bitmaps. Instead of hunting for a converter that supports your exact source format, drop any common image here and get a clean, uncompressed BMP those tools will read. The bitmap is rebuilt pixel-for-pixel from your source image, so nothing is lost in the conversion.

What this tool preserves — and what it changes

✓ Preserved

  • The decoded pixels one-for-one in raw 24-bit rows, whatever the source — HEIC decodes via the bundled decoder, SVG rasterizes at your chosen scale
  • Dimensions from every source format

↺ Changed

  • Transparency from any alpha-capable source — PNG, WebP, GIF, AVIF or SVG — is flattened onto the background color you choose (white by default)
  • File size balloons: three raw bytes per pixel plus row padding, no matter how small the compressed source was

Known limits & edge cases

  • Animated GIF or WebP input converts as its first frame
  • The 100-megapixel processing cap matters here more than anywhere — an uncompressed 100 MP bitmap would be ~300 MB

Engine: Your browser's own image decoder and canvas encoders (AVIF included); HEIC decodes via a bundled JavaScript decoder (Emscripten-compiled libheif); GIF, BMP and ICO are written by our own encoders. About the formats

What is a JPG file?

JPG is the most widely used photo format on the web. It uses lossy compression that keeps file sizes small while preserving the detail that matters in photographs. Nearly every device, browser, app and website accepts JPG, which makes it the safest choice for sharing and uploading pictures. It does not support transparency or animation.

What is a BMP file?

BMP is an uncompressed raster format created by Microsoft for Windows. Every pixel is stored raw, so files are large but completely lossless and extremely simple to read, which is why old software, scanners, embedded devices and some industrial tools still produce or require BMP files. Converting BMP to JPG or PNG typically shrinks the file by 90% or more.

Batch-feeding the uncompressed world

Industrial and legacy software — machine-vision tools, engraving and embroidery programs, old Windows applications, firmware asset pipelines — often accepts only BMP, while the images you’re given arrive as whatever the sender had: JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC. This tool closes that gap in one pass, decoding any mix of modern formats and writing plain uncompressed bitmaps the target software can parse with minimal code.

Everything decodes losslessly into the BMP’s raw pixel grid, so what the legacy tool receives is exactly what you saw. Two practical cautions: BMP files are large by design — a 12-megapixel photo becomes a ~36 MB file — and many old programs also enforce resolution or dimension limits, so run oversized sources through the resize tool first. Transparency is flattened, as classic BMP consumers ignore alpha.

Frequently asked questions

Is this Image to BMP converter free?

Yes — completely free, with no sign-up, no watermarks and no daily quota. Processing happens in this browser, so the practical limit is the memory available on your device.

Can I convert multiple Image files at once?

Yes. Select or drop as many files as you like — each one is converted in sequence with its own progress status, and you can download the results individually or all together as a ZIP archive.

Will I lose quality converting Image to BMP?

No — BMP is a lossless format, so the converted file reproduces the decoded image pixel for pixel. No additional compression artifacts are introduced by the conversion.
