Decode AVIF images to lossless PNG with transparency intact. Free in your browser — no sign-up, no watermarks.
How to convert AVIF to PNG
- Click Choose files (or drag & drop) and select one or more AVIF files. You can also paste an image from your clipboard.
- No settings needed for this conversion — the defaults handle everything.
- Press Convert to PNG. Each file is converted with a live progress indicator.
- Open the download page to save your files individually or grab everything as a single ZIP.
Why convert AVIF to PNG?
Pick PNG when the AVIF holds a graphic or a transparent image, or when you want a lossless master copy to edit. The conversion preserves the full alpha channel and adds no compression artifacts of its own.

What this tool preserves — and what it changes
✓ Preserved
- The full alpha channel — transparent AVIF graphics stay transparent in the PNG
- Every decoded pixel — the PNG encode is lossless, making this the right path for a lossless working copy
↺ Changed
- File size grows a lot — AVIF is the strongest compressor among the common formats and PNG is lossless
- Animated AVIF is read as its first frame
Known limits & edge cases
- Older browsers without AVIF decoding fail with an explicit decode error rather than a blank image
- A renamed HEIC (same container family) is identified by its brand bytes on the inspection card before you convert
Engine: Your browser's own image decoder and canvas encoders (AVIF included); HEIC decodes via a bundled JavaScript decoder (Emscripten-compiled libheif); GIF, BMP and ICO are written by our own encoders. These statements describe the engine as shipped on 2026-10-02 — behaviour changes are recorded in the changelog.

A lossless exit from AVIF
When an AVIF needs to enter an editing workflow, PNG is the cleaner destination than JPG: the decode happens once, and everything the file contained — including transparency, which AVIF supports and JPG doesn’t — lands in a lossless container that any design tool can open. That matters for graphics, cutouts and UI assets distributed as AVIF, where flattening the alpha channel onto white would destroy the point of the file.
It also matters for archiving: if you’re keeping a copy of an image whose original source may disappear, PNG guarantees that no further generation loss ever creeps in, no matter how many times the file is opened and re-saved down the years. Size is the trade-off — AVIF’s compression is dramatically better, so expect the PNG to be several times larger than the file you started with.
Frequently asked questions
Is this AVIF to PNG converter free?
Yes — completely free, with no sign-up, no watermarks and no daily quota. Processing happens in this browser, so the practical limit is the memory available on your device.
Can I convert multiple AVIF files at once?
Yes. Select or drop as many files as you like — each one is converted in sequence with its own progress status, and you can download the results individually or all together as a ZIP archive.
Will I lose quality converting AVIF to PNG?
No — PNG is a lossless format, so the converted file reproduces the decoded image pixel for pixel. No additional compression artifacts are introduced by the conversion.
